    Where to Stay in DC?
Mainly for Kate and Emily, but we are heading to DC next weekend for a late anniversary trip. We are just staying for the weekend and lots of Saturday will be spent at the PSU/Indiana game which is at Redskins stadium. But, I want to make sure we stay somewhere central, that isn't break the bank expensive.

Friday night/Saturday nigh/and Sunday daytime we have free. I really want to see some of the touristy things like the Smithsonian, etc.

Any recommendations on a hotel that is in walking distance of touristy activities, but also reasonably close to the subway so we can get out to the football game? We aren't planning to rent a car if we can avoid it.

    Thanks!!!

    Where to research birthday parties?
So, I am starting to plan Grace's 3rd birthday and was wondering where you all have researched to get ideas. It is going to be on 4/6 (Good Friday, I know, but Saturday is the neighborhood egg hunt) and I want to do it in the morning. My idea is to do a "Dora" theme without all thr Dora paraphenalia. What I mean, is that we are going to do the party at home in the yard and I want to make it like an episode of Dora in which the kids have to do X and X to get to the goal of X. What I thought since it is so close to Easter, is to do an Easter egg hunt. Each kid would get a basket and they would each be assigned a color. Then, on each "mission" they would collect their colored egg. I need to come up with 2 "missions". I thought the final goal would be to make it to a pinata and then have pizza and cake/ice cream. We live at the end of a cul de sac, so to spread things out I could do one of the missions either in the front yard or in the middle of the cul de sac. I expect we will have between 10-12 kids, all close to 3 years old.

Do y'all think this could work? I really don't like "character" parties, but Grace LOVES Dora, so I thought it would be fun to make that the activity versus getting all the Dora junk. I would love to hear any ideas or tips you may have!

    birthday!
I have been a slacker about LJ for the past 2 weeks, but for good reason. David Andrew was born early Friday morning, 10/6 (12:54 am) and weighed in at 7 lbs, 7 ounces and was 20 inches long. I had been having contractions off and on all day and Andy came home and surprised me with plans to take me out to dinner a week before our 4 year anniversary (since he felt sure we wouldn't make it to 10/12). On the way to dinner I told him I thought we should stop by the hospital just in case. I was 4-5 cm dilated already, so we didn't make it to the restaurant. I got a room just after 8 (in time to watch Grey's Anatomy) and David was born less than 5 hours later.

All in all, a very easy delivery, and he is healthy and happy. We had a scare during the pregnancy since his right foot appeared that it could be a club foot, but turns out that was just his position and all is well! We were released Sunday morning (a day too late for my preference, but they made me stay 2 days since I was group B strep positive). Grace is a VERY proud big sister and all is going well. We are still working out the evening sleep routine, but other than being tired, things couldn't be better :-)

    Hand, Foot, & Mouth disease
There is posting that this has affected Grace's daycare, and I am off to research, but does anyone have experience with this first hand, how bad is it, and what precautions do I take? Thanks!

Emily (or anyone else with experience) - help needed with announcements
I did a search on CC and Emily posted on 2 different threads that she had made her own announcements. Now, I was pathetic with Grace and didn't send out announcements, but was thinking of sending them for this one since he will probably miss out on several things I did for Grace. I know Emily is gone, but when you get back, can you share tips? Or if anyone else has tips, I would appreciate them!

I would like something fairly easy I can do on my computer and have printed. I have already started making my Christmas cards, so I am not up for anything quite as complex as those :-)

    moving update
We are no longer moving to Kansas City! I am SO excited that everything worked out for us to stay in Houston. I have nothing against KC, but I have family in Houston and more family throughout Texas and really wasn't excited about moving to a place with no family with a 2 year old and another on the way. I was really wondering what we would do with Grace when I go into labor! Andy starts his new job on 6/15, and only has to travel the rest of this week and next. It will be SO very nice to have him home again, he has been leaving Sunday evenings and coming back on Friday evenings :-(

So - I now have to research hospitals to have this new baby since I have 2 options with my doctor. I switched doctor's after having Grace because my previous doctor, and the hospital, are 45 mins away, which isn't a good option with a toddler at home :-)

Nothing else too exciting. We are planning a weekend trip to my grandparents lakehouse next weekend and are taking our boat, which will be a lot of fun. Other than that, this is my crazy busy month at work, so I probably won't be around LJ too often :-( (not that I am on so much now, anyways).

Lots going on in our lives!

I had my big ultrasound yesterday and most importantly, the baby looked healthy. They were able to tell the gender and we are having a BOY! I really didn't care either way, but I know Andy really wanted a boy. They weren't able to get a good view at the feet to rule out club feet, so the positive out of that is that I get to have another ultrasound. I had bought 3 things at Gymboree last week because I had a gut feeling that we were having a boy, so now no returns. I just have to figure out how to morph Grace's room into a little boy nursery.

It is 99% sure that we are staying in Houston and no longer moving to Kansas City, which I am QUITE happy about. Nothing against KC, but my mom is here, and we love our house, neighborhood, and friends, and it was going to be hard to leave. Andy was approached 2 months ago by another company that wanted him to interview for a position that would keep us here. He got an offer on Friday and is now just negotiating the details. We feel very blessed that it seems that everything will work out for us not to move.

We had added on to our covered porch and bought the components to put in one of those built in outdoor kitchens (not sure how popular they are in other places across the country). We had the guy come out yesterday to give us a bid on finishing it out, which would be great!

Other than that (which is enough) there isn't a lot else going on. I apologize for checking in so infrequently, but I do love reading about how everyone's lives are going!

    quick update
I read along in other people's journals, but am TERRIBLE at updating my own!

Grace turned 2 years old 2 weeks ago and we had such a great time! We had a party for her on the Saturday after her birthday and ordered a moonwalk. She was so excited when they got here and were blowing it up. They left it here much longer than the 4 hours they were supposed to, so she got to play in it again after she woke up from her nap, so that was a huge success.

I am currently 15 1/2 weeks pregnant (every day counts!) and am feeling much better. My big ultrasound is 3 weeks from today, on 5/17, and I am still debating whether to find out the gender. Andy really wants to, but I would kind of like to be surprised for this one. We will see who wins.

We leave on Friday morning for a long weekend to the LA area to visit my dad. Since Andy is working in KC full time now, he is going to meet us out there, which means a 3 hour flight for me alone with a 2 year old! I bought 2 new DVDs, and have a few of those activity books with the water filled markers, so wish me luck on Friday! We are going to Disneyland for a day, and my stepmom is very excited, and is making us a lunch reservation so Grace can have lunch with the Princesses. I am not sure she will get it, but it will still be fun.

Nothing else too exciting going on :-)

    weekend ramblings
I feel very blegh lately. Not full out throwing up, but a constant state of nausea. Fun fun!

My dad and stepmom came in town this weekend and we drove up to visit my grandparents. We told my grandparents and dad our news, but I couldn't work myself up to make a big pregnancy announcement (2 sets of aunts and uncles were there as well). I am only 6 weeks along and just don't want the whole world to know, just in case.

This is our month for family visitors. Friday Andy's mom and aunt come in. They are coming in to watch Grace since we leave Saturday morning for a 5 day cruise. I am really looking forward to just relaxing and hope that the weather is sunny and warm in the Caribbean. My husband keeps looking at shore excursions that just aren't going to work for me, so I hope he gets a reality check. He wants to do these events that involve a climbing wall or a zipline, both of which are out :-)
